According to a post on FitzHugh.ca, "the statistics from the Government of Canada show that in 2020 there were 1.22 million businesses that employed staff in Canada. 97.9% of these Canadian businesses were small employer businesses. This represents around 1.2 million businesses in total. Only 1.9% of the companies were medium-sized and a mere 0.2% were large companies.
"A further look at the statistics reveals that 55.3% of all local businesses are micro companies employing less than five people, while 18.6% of them employ between five and nine members of staff. This means that nearly 3/4 of all Canadian companies have less than ten members of staff."
